Bio

Jack Walters is a performer, composer, and music educator based in the heart of Waikato, New Zealand.

Growing up on a dairy farm in Otorohanga and attending a local primary school with fewer than 50 students, a career in music was the last thing friends and family expected. At 12, Jack enrolled as a boarder at Southwell School and later attended St. Paul’s Collegiate School for high school.

The opportunities at boarding school were much greater than in his small hometown, allowing Jack to explore his passion for music. At St. Paul’s, he was a Pipe Organ Scholar and gained university entrance for Organ Performance but decided to pursue Composition instead.

Jack studied at Berklee College of Music's Online Campus. After two years of study, he graduated with a B.A. in Film, TV, and Game Composition.

Jack currently teaches Piano, Music Theory, and Music Production at St. Paul’s Collegiate and works as a Residential Assistant in one of the boarding houses. He spent four years as the Musical Director of Performing Arts at Fairfield Intermediate School, helping prepare students for their annual school musical.

Jack produced the Indie Rock Band 'The Bagels' debut album, 'Chasing Waves,' available on all major streaming services.

Jack's musical tastes are varied, ranging from the Renaissance period and Baroque improvisation of J.S. Bach to lush Romantic, experimental 20th Century, film scores, and contemporary music. While he doesn’t enjoy all music, he has a great appreciation for the craftsmanship.

In his spare time, Jack enjoys trail running, gardening, and, of course, all things music!
